National Blueberry Pancake Day: Should Bangor Get An IHOP?
Since today is National Blueberry Pancake Day, it is time to beg for an IHOP again!
National Blueberry Pancake Day is celebrated throughout the United States each year on January 28th.
What really makes Maine blueberry pancakes stand out, is the blueberries themselves. Maine’s wild blueberries are smaller, more intense, and way more flavorful than the big supermarket kind, so you get more berry in every bite and little bursts of sweet-tart goodness instead of mush.
When you add in the whole New England breakfast vibe...local ingredients, cozy diners, and generations of tradition, it all make this Maine treat iconic..
For many years, there was an CHOP (Colonial House of Pancakes) restaurant in Bangor, that was immensely popular, but ultimately it closed. If you are looking for a point of reference, it was located at 697 Hogan Road, where Miguel’s now resides.

Back in the summer of 2018, the city planning board voted unanimously to allow the development of an IHOP, which would have been located at The Rodeway Inn on Odlin Road, but that never came to be.
It goes without saying, that the Bangor area has plenty of great options for pancakes, such as:
Judy's
Eagle's Nest Restaurant
Governor's
Coach House
Dysart's
Chase's Family Restaurant
Broadway Coffee Shop
Bagel Central
But, here we are at the beginning of 2026, and we are still without an IHOP in the Bangor area, so the question remains, do we need one here, or is the Newport location close enough?
As of now, there are 6 IHOP locations in Maine:
649 Turner Street-Auburn
110 Community Drive-Augusta
195 Maine Mall Road-Portland
515 Main Street-Saco
267 North Street-Houlton
18 Moosehead Trail-Newport
There are 6 in New Hampshire, in Bedford, Nashua, Newington, Rochester, Salem, and Seabrook
While there are plenty of great spots in the Bangor area to grab breakfast, IHOP is a chain that we could really use here in the Queen City.
With that being said, today IS National Blueberry Pancake Day, and Maine is world famous for them, so head to the iconic Dysart's, and enjoy their world famous blueberry pancakes!
