Yikes. Bangor was listed as one of the top cities in the country with the worst potholes.

Definitely a list you don't want to be on. A study named Bangor among the top cities with the worst potholes. Analysts poured over search data for pothole-related complaints and repairs for each city, going back to 2004. Bangor was listed at No. 21 on the list of results and was the only Maine city on the list. Ouch.

It should come as no surprise that other New England states made the list. Boston and Springfield, Massachusetts were listed among the top 50 cities. Burlington, Vermont landed at No. 6 on the list. Topping the list was Yakima, Washington. Overall, make ranked No. 43 on the list of states with the worst potholes. Massachusetts landed at No. 6, Vermont No. 13, and New Hampshire at No. 33.

Bangor's pothole issue certainly stems from the winter climate. The freezing and thawing of the roads create cracks in the pavement, which eventually open up as potholes. Additionally, plowing operations throughout the winter months scrape patches out of the pavement.
