They currently stand vacated. It's almost eerie. A ghost-land of sort.

Judging by the photographs by the auction company and also by just cruising past these now closed Burger Kings, we find it amazing that everyone left in such a hurry, as sale posters still hang in the windows and french fries in the fryers can still be seen in the pictures.

But on another note.

Back in late December we broke the news that four Burger King fast food restaurants here in eastern Maine would suddenly be closing their doors for business.  The news was taken hard by BK lovers all over the area.  Suddenly, where was one able to score a Whopper with cheese meal?

Burger Kings owned by Steve Wegner officially closed on Monday, December 28th, and they included the ones on High Street in Ellsworth, Hogan Road in Bangor, Stillwater Avenue in Orono, and on Camden Street in Rockland.

Now, we have information that at least two of the fast food restaurants will be up for auction. The auction will be conducted by Keenan Auction Company.

The Burger King on High Street in Ellsworth and the 3 acres included will be auctioned off on Tuesday, March 30th, at 10 a.m.  The preview for this location is Monday, the 15th.

The Burger King on Stillwater Avenue in Orono will be auctioned off that day as well, at 1 p.m. and inspection will also be on Monday, the 15th.

Meanwhile, contents of all four area restaurants will be auctioned off as well

The contents of the restaurants including including the seating, booths, tables, kitchenware, stoves, refrigeration, ice cream machines, stainless steel countertops and fryers will all go to the highest bidder as online bidding begins Sunday, March 14th, at 9 a.m.

The Burger King on Wilson Street in Brewer remains in business serving up Whoopers with cheese.  So, all is still well with the world.
