Yesterday, the Maine Senate said "bad boy," and declined to make the Labrador Retriever the Maine State Dog.

The Senate voted in favor of killing the bill sponsored by Senator David Dutremble of Biddeford back in January.

The Republican controlled Senate voted 24-10 against the bill, The State and Local Government Committee also voted  against the bill last week.

Lawmakers said the bill was "unnecessary" and that they shouldn't play favorites when it comes to choosing one breed over another.

Back in 2011, lawmakers approved the Whoopie Pie as the official Maine State "Treat."   Was that necessary?

The family friendly Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog in the world, but the official Maine State cat, the Maine Coon Cat, still can look down from the counter at him.

There's still a glimmer of hope for the Labrador Retriever as the bill will now go to vote within the Democratic controlled House.
