1993 - Mariah Carey

The pop diva starts a three week run with her hit single 'Dreamlover' as No.1 on the US singles chart.

1996 - Tupac Shakur

Rapper dies after being shot six days earlier when he was driving through Las Vegas, thought to be a result of East and West Coast Gang wars.

2001 - My Chemical Romance

Walking to work in New York as a comic book illustrator, Gerard Way witnesses the 9/11 attacks o the World Trade Center.  The day’s events inspired him to start a band, which became My Chemical Romance with Way becoming the lead singer.

2006 - Justin Timberlake

“sexyBack”, the lead single from his second solo album ‘FutureSex: LoveSounds, hits #1 in the US, where it stays for seven weeks.  Sells over 9 million copies.

2009 - Taylor Swift

The country turned pop singer wins for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards where Kanye comes on stage and tells the world Beyonce should have won for her video “Single Ladies”.  Swift finishes her speech when Bey wins for Video of the Year later that night and Bey invites Swift on stage to finish her speech.

2010 - Lady Gaga

Wins Video of the Year for “Bad Romance” at the MTV Video Music Awards.  Oh yeah, and..... meat dress.

2016 - Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers are #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their song 'Closer' featuring singer Halsey.  The song is #1 for 3 weeks.
