March 1st - March 7th: See how the Beastie Boys, Spice Girls, Faith Hill, Duffy, Diplo and Michael Jackson marked this week in history for the past 30 years in pop music.

 

1987 - Beastie Boys

Licensed to Ill becomes the first rap album to top the U.S. charts, staying at #1 for seven weeks.

1993 - Spice Girls

An open audition in a London Dance studio brought in 400 hopefuls but only 5 got selected to be the Spice Girls.

1998 - Faith Hill

Country goes pop when Faith Hill hits the Hot 100 top ten with 'This Kiss'.

 

2008 - Duffy

The British single releases her debut album Rockferry featuring her international hit "Mercy".

2009 - Michael Jackson

The King of Pop announces the "This Is It" concerts to take place at the O2 Arena in London.  Jackson dies before the sold out concerts happen.

 

2016 - Diplo

The DJ takes his Major Lazer project to Cuba and becomes the first musical act to perform in the secluded country.
