We were saddened to learn of the passing of another well respected Maine police officer.

This past Monday morning, Lt. Dave Chapais of the Pleasant Point Police Department in Washington County suffered a medical event while on duty.  He didn't survive.

Mr. Chapais served his communities, state, and country well.  He served in the United States Coast Guard, and was also once the Chief of the Southwest Harbor Police Department and a DARE officer, before moving along to serve the Passamaquoddy Indian reservation at Pleasant Point.

Reading through the comments left on various Facebook posts by the public, it's easy to understand why his brothers and sisters in law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other first responders gathered in bulk and then lined the roads downeast to escort him from Northern Light EMMC in Bangor to a funeral home in Calais.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Chapais.  We thank this man for his extraordinary service and dedication to his profession and communities.  RIP, fine sir.
