Looking for a short walk?

It's probably one of the more picturesque walks within any small coastal town in New England, and if you haven't strolled the 3/4 of a mile pathway yet, you really should take the time to do so.

The famous Bar Harbor Shore Path was created in 1881, and one can only imagine the famous and successful individuals of the past who have walked it throughout the years.  Let's go ahead and join them.

The Bar Harbor Shore Path starts right there by the Bar Harbor Town Pier and beautiful Agamount Park.  The first things that you may take notice of are a set of cannons that once stood out on Egg Island until back in 1898, in defense of Frenchman Bay.

Looking just a few more feet up the Shore Path you'll come across the Bar Harbor Inn with its impressive garden that sits directly across from the dock where the Margaret S. Todd schooner is usually tied up. If you stroll past the Inn during the warm months you'll see the yellow umbrellas with people eating their lunch and dinner underneath them.

As one walks southerly you'll eventually see impressive and private mansions, Grant Park with its picnic tables, and Bar Island along with the breakwater within Mount Desert Narrows that protects the Harbor.  You'll also come across Balance Rock, where it's almost impossible to resist taking a photo or two.

The Bar Harbor Shore Path comes to an end at a metal fence where you'll take a right and walk a gravel path to Wayman Lane which runs by Mount Desert Hospital and to Main Street, where you can then walk right through the center of town and then back down the hill to the Bar Harbor Town Pier, where you began your trek.
