Vinalhaven Man Dies After Crash

A Vinalhaven man has died from injuries suffered in a crash on the island Tuesday.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office said Patrick Gasperini, 28, was pronounced dead at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, WABI reported Wednesday.

Around noon Tuesday, Gasperini's pickup truck struck a tree along Land Islands Road.

Witnesses said the truck passed them at a high rate of speed, struck the tree, rolled about 100 feet and then came to rest at the bottom of a steep embankment.

Deputies said Gasperini may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
