The University of Maine's Composites Center will receive awards for three Guinness World Records this morning, in relation to its massive 3D printer.

In a ceremony that will be live-streamed on Facebook at 10 a.m., the University of Maine's Composites Center will unveil the world's largest 3D printer and the largest 3D printed object. That object is a 25-foot, 5,000 pound patrol boat that was printed over the course of 72 hours. The boat will be placed in the University's wave-wind basin during the event today, to prove its viability.

The printer can consume up to 500 pounds of plastic polymer pellets per hour, which makes it much larger than the 3D printer at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. A Guinness World Records Adjudicator will officially present three world records to the center, one for the world's largest polymer 3D printer, one for the largest 3D printed boat, and the third will be for the largest solid 3D printed item.

Congratulations to Center Director Habib Dagher and his entire staff. What an amazing accomplishment.
