According to WABI TV 5, a threat about a possible shooting at the school was discovered written in a stall in the girls' bathroom near the cafeteria at Calais Middle & High School.

The superintendent announced the closure of the school for Thursday, October 7th 2021, given the serious nature of the threat. Yesterday schools in Orono were closed following a similar threat.
