You will have to enjoy Moxie this year from the comfort of you own home

Three days of wicked cool events were supposed to take place July 10-12th in Lisbon, Maine, for what would have been the 38th Annual Moxie Festival, however like most events this summer, it has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Since 1982, The Moxie Festival is held on the second weekend of July in Lisbon, and usually includes fireworks, a block party, petting zoo, vendors, a car show, 5k run, live music, parades, kid activities, and of course, the famous Moxie Chug Competiton. Their mission has always been to provide an entertaining, professionally run, yet distinctively different festival true to the spirit of Moxie. The festival benefits the citizens and businesses of Lisbon and encourages community development.

Rest assured, the plans are in place to make the 2021 Moxie Festival the biggest and best yet!

If you are from out of state, and don't know the legend of Moxie, it's a soda that is among the first mass-produced soft drinks in the United States. It was created around 1876 by Augustin Thompson, who hailed from Union, Maine, as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food" Moxie's flavor is unique to say the least, it's also an acquired one. A sweet drink with a bitter aftertaste(to put it midly) Moxie is flavored with gentian root extract, an extremely bitter substance commonly used in herbal medicine. Moxie was designated the official soft drink of Maine on May 10, 2005.

We found some cool videos of previous festivals, including the chugging contest!
