State Police Investigating a Homicide in Newport [UPDATE]

State Police say a Newport woman is dead in what they're calling a domestic violence homicide.

Police responded to a 911 call at 10 a.m. and found 37-year-old Anielka Allen dead in the home she shared with her husband. The phone call originated from the residence, , according to Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland. Allen's husband, 40-year-old Frederick Allen, now is charged with murder.

Detectives and evidence technicians spent the day at the house and are expected to return on Friday to the home the couple have shared since 2012. McCausland said Anielka's body was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta, where an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

This is the state's first homicide of 2020.
