Reinventing Stephen King is tricky business, but Spike’s The Mist seems plenty terrifying in its own right. The upcoming adaptation of King’s bleak novella has a brand-new trailer that looks scarier than anything on television.

Ahead of a June 22 premiere, The Mist reveals some of its creepy-crawly threats in an extended new trailer, along with the multiple settings expanded from King’s novella. The new series stars Vikings alum Alyssa Sutherland, Six Feet Under and American Horror Story favorite Frances Conroy, The Wire alum Isiah Whitlock Jr, Morgan Spector, Luke Cosgrove and more.

Here’s how Spike describes the new series:

Based on a story by Stephen King, Spike’s “The Mist” centers around a small town family that is torn apart by a brutal crime. As they deal with the fallout an eerie mist rolls in, suddenly cutting them off from the rest of the world, and in some cases, each other. Family, friends and adversaries become strange bedfellows, battling the mysterious mist and its threats, fighting to maintain morality and sanity as the rules of society break down.

Written by RITA scribe Christian Torpe, the new series will draw inspiration from the Stephen King novella, as well as Walking Dead alum Frank Darabont’s 2007 film. You can watch the first trailers below, and stay tuned for more.
