Speed and Alcohol Possible Factors in Fatal Winterport Crash

One man is dead after a single-vehicle crash Thursday night in Winterport.

The Waldo County Sheriff's Office says the accident was reported just before 7:00 Thursday night on the Stream Road. Officials say it appears that a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, driven by 21-year-old Jesse Skillings of Frankfort, struck a mailbox, while traveling west. After hitting the mailbox, the pickup crossed to the opposite side of the road and struck a tree. Skillings, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by Winterport Ambulance personnel.

The investigation is ongoing, but Waldo County Sheriff's officials say speed and alcohol may have been factors in the accident.
