What Happened?

After investigating the circumstances of the crash, officials determined that Wallace was traveling south on Route 15 when his vehicle left the pavement on the right-hand side of the roadway. It appears that Wallace overcorrected and his Nissan Rogue crossed the road, causing it to travel into the ditch. The vehicle struck several trees before coming to rest on its roof. Mr. Wallace was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Officials say he died as a result of his injuries.

Did Alcohol or Speed Contribute to the Crash?

Pending further investigation, officials with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office say speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash. Assisting the sheriff's office were members of the Sedgwick and Blue Hill Fire Departments.

According to the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, there have been 126 traffic fatalities, so far this year.
