Searsport 175th Birthday Celebration July 1st – 4th

Even though the city was founded February 13^th, 1845, and the 175^th was actually last year, well you know. The pandemic.  So it might be over a year past due, but in lots of ways the celebration is right on time.

The celebration in Searsport will be full of many community events and programs and spread out over 4 days. July 1^st to the 4^th are the dates, and the memorable celebration will begin with a program called “Ripped from the Headlines.”  Volunteers will bring Searsport local history to life, to kick off the 4^th of July weekend, Thursday the 1st.

On Friday, Searsport Town Historian Charlene Knox Farris will host a free Walking Tour through the village.  It begins at 10 a.m.

It will be a day with numerous events, capped on Friday evening with a concert with Maine humorist Tim Sample.  That will be at 7 pm in the High School Gym, and tickets are $20 with all proceeds to benefit celebration expenses.

Saturday the 3^rd begins with Row Boat races at Hamilton Wharf at 7:30 a.m.

The committee is working hard to make the 4^th of July Parade the biggest parade in the town’s history.  To not compete with other town’s parades on the 4^th, Searsport celebrates 175^th birthday and the country’s 245^th with a parade on Saturday the 3^rd to begin at 11 a.m.. Kids are invited to be a part of the parade by decorating their bikes in red, white and blue.

The Searsport 175^th Birthday celebration will also include the biggest fireworks display in town’s history on Sunday the 4^th at 9 p.m. from Mosman Park.
