Sears Auto Center in Bangor, which survived the closure of the retail store, will close later this week.

It's not a very good Christmas present for six employees of the Sears Auto Center, but the garage will close for good at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The closing reportedly only affects the Bangor Mall location.

Local employees just learned of the closure last week, and it's not clear whether Sears has offered any of them positions in other locations. Manager Mark Daigle told the BDN that the auto center is offering deep discounts today and tomorrow, including deals on tires.

The auto center survived the closure of the retail store in April. There are two other Sears Auto Centers in Maine, in Brunswick, and at the Maine Mall in South Portland.

Both of those businesses are attached to Sears stores that are still open.
