The man who was struck and killed when he stopped to tend to a cat in the middle of Portland Avenue was identified on Thursday morning.

Michal Wing, 29, of Sanford was identified by Rollinsford police as the Good Samaritan who stopped late Monday night to help the cat.

Wing was struck by a westbound vehicle near Short Street and Cumberland Farms.

Rollinsford Police Chief Jon Uraskevich said the driver stopped and was cooperating with police in the investigation.

"I just can’t imagine….what a compassionate human he was," Moe Cahill wrote on the Facebook page of Wing's sibling Chris.

"Worked with Michal. Sweetest person I've ever known. Sending my condolences to you and your family," Cheri Beausoleil wrote.

Wing's family declined to comment when contacted by Seacoast Current for this story because, as one family member said, he was a private person.
