Phone Scam Targets Brewer Water Department Customers

Police say scammers are calling Brewer Water Department customers, demanding bill payments and threatening to shut off their water.

Area residents say they were told they must pay the bill over the phone via a credit or debit card, Brewer Public Safety Director Jason Moffitt said Tuesday.

Moffitt said the calls are not coming from water department employees, and the department doesn't even accept phone payments.

Police say anyone with questions about their bill or the scam should call the water department at 207-989-4214.
