A woman was killed in a house fire in Surry overnight.

WABI-TV reports the woman's body was found inside the home on Morgan Bay Road by crews that had been called to the residence at around 11:00 Sunday night. Investigators say the woman was alone in the house and is believed to have been sleeping when the fire started.

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of family. The State Fire Marshal's Office will now work to determine what sparked the blaze.
