It's been several years since Sukee Arena has left Winslow and left the greater Waterville area without an ice arena....until now.

According to a report by WABI, a new ice arena is taking shape with plans to build next to the Alfond Youth & Community Center.

The new building will be called, the Central Maine Community Recreation Arena, and finally local youth hockey won't be under such stress to find a place to practice and play. It's expected that the arena will feature full ice almost half the year and transfer to a turf field in the other months.

Andrew Silsby, CEO and President of Kennebec Savings Bank said:

“Every kid deserves some time on the ice. The heart and soul of the Waterville/Winslow area has been in ice sports and I just think it’s an amazing opportunity.”

The project is coming together after several investors have been involved in silent funding over the past several months.

If all goes as planned the new arena could be up and running in the next couple of years.
