A new sandwich shop will be opening soon along Stillwater Avenue, and aside form boasting a menu full of subs, this restaurant plans to give back to the community in a very important way.

Founded about 20 years ago in Florida, there are now over a thousand Firehouse Sub shops across the world. The brain-child of a couple brothers/firemen, who were no strangers to cooking for folks with a hearty appetite, the owners made it their goal to put not only great food where their mouths were, but money. And that money goes to a cause near and dear to their hearts.

According to their website, a portion of all the proceeds from all the US Firehouse Subs locations go toward providing life-saving equipment to local firefighters and EMS. "Since the Foundation started, it has granted over $44 million to provide equipment, training, and support to hometown heroes." So proceeds from the new Bangor store will go to help area firefighters and first responders.

The site says the new location at 920-930 Stillwater will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., and will also be taking catering orders. They say they specialize in hot "steamed" subs made of premium meats and cheeses. It doesn't say exactly when they'll be opening, aside from that it will be soon. So we'll just have to keep an eye out.

We'll update this post as more information becomes available.
