The driver wasn't hurt when they somehow drove their car onto the top of a trash compactor in Millinocket.

East Millinocket Police say they were called to the Millinocket Transfer Station on Friday for an unusual situation.

Somehow, the driver of an SUV had driven onto/into the trash hopper and couldn't get it free. It's tough to tell from the picture whether the person was backing up or driving forward. But, whichever way they were going, they obviously went way too far. When police arrived, there was a person still in the vehicle, unable to get out because of the position of the car and the compactor immediately beneath it.

We're sure it took a little puzzling over how, exactly, to deal with the crash but the East Millinocket Police were able to get the driver safely out of the vehicle. That person, luckily, wasn't injured in the incident. But that left the challenge of removing the vehicle without rupturing the fuel tank.

Police called in a heavy-duty wrecker with a boom in order to lift the vehicle off the hopper and slowly carry it to safe ground. Bouchard & Sons Towing came to the rescue with the necessary equipment and recovered the SUV, without causing any further damage to it. The transfer station was closed Friday, while this operation took place, but reopened on Saturday.
