BREAKING NEWS: The state Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta has released the cause of death for UMaine football player Darius Minor who collapsed and died late last month.

In response to an email from Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket, Mark Belserene from the Medical Examiner's Office issued the following statement...

'The cause of death for Darius Minor is: Acute aortic dissection with cardiac tamponade with hypertensive cardiovascular disease as a contributing factor. The manner is natural. No further information.'

The 18-year-old Minor, from Virginia, collapsed during a workout involving first year players in the early afternoon of July 24th. Training staff and first responders could not revive him.

UMaine coach Joe Harasymiak said after the death of MInor that no player will wear his #39 for the next four years as one way to honor Minor. At media day, Minor's defensive back teammates made sure Minor was remembered by holding his jersey for all photographs taken that day.
