Maine State Police have issued a traffic advisory for southbound traffic after a series of crashes just outside Bangor.

Maine State Police began responding to several motor vehicle crashes at 9:00 Monday morning, located between mile markers 162-172 southbound, in the area of Plymouth, Dixmont, and Etna and as far south as Newport.

Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says icy road conditions that developed very quickly during the morning hours, contributed to multiple crashes, involving both passenger cars and tractor-trailers. Several injuries were reported but, at this point, none appear to be life-threatening.

The southbound lane of I-95 is closed in that area at this time, and will likely be closed until nightfall. Traffic is being diverted at Exit 167 while the roadway is cleared. Drivers are advised to slow down and pay attention to how closely they're following behind other vehicles. These crashes are a good reminder to heed highway signs when the speed limit is reduced due to bad weather.
