Maine’s Ultimate ‘Old School’ Bucket List Dining Adventure
This iconic spot was picked as one of the best in the country!
Lovefood is a popular online food platform that provides recipes, cooking guides, food news, restaurant reviews, and meal planning.
They also make lists, which we love, so when it came down to choosing the best bucket list "old school" restaurant in each state, we just HAD to know what their choice for Maine was.
Nailing down the best is no easy task. Every state has a variety of dining options, simpler fare, to Michelin starred fine dining restaurants.
Lovefood based their choices on user reviews, awards and accolades, and their very lucky staff, who get to travel across the country to sample it first hand.
Red's Eats, in Wiscasset, has been a mainstay since 1938 and boasts lengthy lines throughout the summer season (from mid-April to mid-October)
Sandwiches don’t get more iconic than Maine’s succulent lobster rolls, and Red's Eats makes some of the best you’ll ever taste.
If you are looking for the ultimate outdoor dining experience in Maine, this is worth hoping in the car and taking a drive for!
A family run business, the self proclaimed "Home of Maine's #1 Lobster Roll" Red's Eats has been serving up killer food since 1938, but they do a whole lot more than lobster rolls. In fact, they have over 70 other fresh selections on the menu, including a red snapper hot dog that will make you weak in the knees.
Word to the wise, have plenty of spare time, because those lines of customers will test your patience. It's worth it.
They are celebrating their 87th year of operation, and are now open for the 2025 season.
Voted Maine’s #1 Lobster Roll on several lists, they were also inducted to TripAdvisor’s Hall Of Fame. And Red's was featured on a Maine themed episode on the Netflix show "Somebody Feed Phil", where Phil Rosenthal, the creator of the classic sitcom, "Everybody Loves Raymond" travels the globe in search of the best food to chow down on.
They are not however without their detractors, there is a Facebook page called Give "Red's Eats" The Finger that has over 9,300 likes!
This is how they describe the page:
Tired of waiting in traffic and wasting away your beautiful summer days just because tourists want lobster rolls? Show your frustration by giving Red's the finger when you are finally able to pass this place.
This group is just for fun and not to be taken seriously. Please do not tag Red's Eats or "check-in" there when posting your finger photos. Please do not yell any profanity at anyone standing in line.
The warm weather is finally here, so when you and your family, or friends hit the open road to explore Maine, put Red's on your bucket list!
