Did you hear the helicopter fly by this past Sunday?

Being injured at 1100 feet above sea level is never a good thing, and that's exactly what happened on Schoodic Mountain yesterday.  But, fear not.  Sullivan Fire & Rescue were there to help, along with the Maine Forest Rangers.

Schoodic Mountain rests between Flanders Pond and Donnell Pond in Sullivan, part of the Donnell Land Unit of the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands.  On a nice summer day it's not uncommon to encounter quite a few folks hiking up and down from the summit, and every now and then boaters on the ponds below will look up and see para-gliders circling the top. The summit makes for a really nice vantage point for this area of Hancock County, loaded with lakes, ponds and rivers, and very hilly terrain.

Just ask our very own Wolfe, who hiked to the top and documented his travels! "We agree with assessments that this hike is moderate in difficulty, but add that it's strenuous at times. The hard work pays off with a 360 summit view, featuring gorgeous distant views of Acadia National Park, nearby lakes, hills, bogs, and ocean views dotted with islands", said Paul Wolfe in his post.

In the photos provided by Maine Forest Rangers on Twitter, you'll see the injured hiker laying on a stretcher within the helicopter, but they report that the person had "non-life threatening injuries." It's nice to know that in a time of need organizations like Sullivan Fire & Rescue and the Maine Forest Rangers are there for us.
