Maine State Police say a 32-year-old Sanford man was killed instantly when he drove off a bridge in Lebanon at a high rate of speed and plummeted 30 feet into water below.

A state police investigation found that Jeffrey Brunelle was attempting to pass several vehicles along Little River Road when he lost control of his car and struck a guardrail on the Grist Mill Bridge half an hour after midnight Friday.

The heavily damaged vehicle was found on its roof in the water.

Brunelle was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the car.

State police believe both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
