A painter was asked why he painted lighthouses so often. He said, 'I find them very enlightening.'

On Sunday, May 28th, from 2 pm - 4:30 pm, a free virtual painting tutorial will be available for anyone who wants to learn how to paint a lighthouse using acrylics. The step-by-step tutorial will be taught by Jesse Robertson, a skilled artist who will guide participants through the process of creating a beautiful painting of a lighthouse. The tutorial will be available for free until June 4th and can be accessed in two ways: by visiting Jesse Robertson's Facebook page or her website, here. Additionally, for just $5, participants can own a streamable copy of the class to keep for a lifetime.

If you're looking for some inspiration for your lighthouse painting, here are three of my personal favorite Pine Tree State lighthouses that would make excellent subjects:

I mean, let’s get the obvious one out of the way, right? As Maine's most famous lighthouse, the Portland Head Light is an iconic structure that has been photographed countless times. The lighthouse boasts a classic Maine aesthetic, with a rocky shoreline, crashing waves, and breathtaking views of the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

Also known as the Nubble Light, Cape Neddick is a camera-ready lighthouse located in York. Cape Neddick was built in 1879 and is still in use today, though it was automated in 1987. Although the lighthouse and grounds are not open to the public, visitors can still enjoy stunning views from the parking area and along the coast. Cape Neddick is free to visit and is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the United States, for obvious reasons.

Always want to show love to the Downeast when I get a chance. Located on the easternmost point of the continental United States, the West Quoddy Head Light is a unique and colorful lighthouse that straddles the Canadian border. The lighthouse's red and white striped design makes it a favorite among photographers and artists alike. The West Quoddy Head Light is well worth the visit for its stunning views and one-of-a-kind aesthetic.

So whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, don't miss the opportunity to learn how to paint a lighthouse with this free tutorial. And if you're looking for inspiration for your painting, consider capturing the beauty of one of Maine's most iconic lighthouses.
