One of the best young basketball players to ever come from the state of Maine recently received significant national recognition.

This is quite an accomplishment for Cooper Flagg, who is still just a sophomore in high school. According to Newscenter Maine, Flagg is just one of two sophomores to be named to one of the three All-America teams.

Cooper, a Newport native, along with his brother Ace, left the Maine high school scene last year to hone his calls at Monteverde Academy in Florida. It was a banner first year for the young Mainer, as he helped lead Monteverde to a 23-2 regular season record, and a number 1 ranking in the upcoming national tournament.

Cooper's story has been a fun one to watch, especially for Maine sports fans. The state isn't exactly a breeding ground for potential pro prospects. So, it's difficult to ignore when someone flashes signs of excellence. Cooper has done just that, and then some.

Newscenter's article does a good job in breaking down the accolades so far. It includes playing for Team USA at the U-17 Basketball World Cup, where he was named on the All-Tournament team. Team USA also named him the 2022 USA Male Basketball Player of the Year.

Cooper's play has also received the attention of the college basketball world. The youngster has a five-star rating from most recruiting sites. That includes ESPN, which has Cooper rated as the number 2 player in the country for the class of 2025. He already has received scholarship offers from Duke, West Virginia, UCLA, Iowa, Michigan, Maine, and others. Some of these schools have also offered his brother, Ace.

As exciting as all of this is, Cooper still has two more years of high school ball to play. That's two more years to keep improving, winning, and best of all, doing it with his brother.

Congrats to both Flagg brothers in their continued success on and off the court. They are a shining example for Mainers everywhere.
