If you are in Piscataquis County this weekend and you are a pet owner, there is an event you should know about.

We checked in with Give a Dog a Home Rescue a couple of months ago. You may remember them. They are based in Sebec.

They are a registered nonprofit, and a state of Maine licensed animal rescue shelter and charitable organization.

Back when we last chatted Give a Dog A Home had dogs arriving from away that would have been euthanized if not brought to Maine and adopted out.

The shelter has a belief that no animals should be killed and also work on worldwide initiatives that save dogs from the meat trade in China and South Korea and also saves animals in war-torn countries in the Middle East.

Here at home, there is a lot more going on at the shelter in the poorest county in the state.

And here’s a chance for you to witness their outreach in the community.

Give a Dog a Home Rescue is participating in two events this weekend to continue to help the community and their pets with either low-cost or free pet services.

They will be at The Piscataquis Ice Arena’s Pop-up market with many heavily discounted pet products that they are selling to raise funds to support community programs. Feed the Need Pet Pantry and The Wellness on Wheels low-cost pet service programs.

That event is Friday Saturday and Sunday in Dover Foxcroft.

Also on Saturday Give a Dog a Home will have their Wellness on Wheels shuttle bus and a volunteer licensed veterinarian outside the event where they will offer free or low-cost pet services. They are also offering free heartworm/tick testing and many other heavily discounted services and tests.

They are able to offer these services because of the Maine Community Foundation Grant they were awarded this summer.

Jenny Cope is the Founder and President and runs Give a Dog a Hom. She says

We hope to help as many pet families with low cost services that they may not be able to afford otherwise , or get an appointment for.  We do not have a licensed veterinarian and so are not able to offer Rabies shots, diagnose or treat.

Here’s where you can connect with Give a Dog a Home Shelter.

And better yet, Say hi in person this Friday Saturday and Sunday at the Ice Arena in Dover.
