An arrest has been made in connection with the death of 14-year-old Brooke McLaughlin of Mt. Vernon. A boy, who police say knew McLaughlin, was taken into custody by the Maine State Police Saturday morning. He was charged with murder and taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

Maine Public Safety Spokesperson, Shannon Moss, says authorities will not be releasing the boy's name or where he is from.

"We will also not be releasing any investigative details such as what led police to the juvenile. Additional information will be released through court documents.  Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding McLaughlin’s death. Anyone with information is asked to call the State Police at 207.624.7076."

McLaughlin, who was a 7th grader at Maranacook Community Middle School, was found dead in her home, by her mother when the woman returned home Monday evening.

A letter was posted on the RSU #38 Maranacook Schools Facebook Page on Thursday, where many classmates, teachers, and townspeople shared their condolences to McLaughlin's family and the Maranacook community.
