John Carpenter Casually Announces a New ‘Halloween’ in 2018, Time to Freak Out
No, this is not a drill. Paramount shelving the new Friday the 13th so soon before production was supposed to begin came as a somewhat sudden disappointment, but, to paraphrase Julie Andrews, when Hollywood closes a door, somewhere they open a window. As it turns out, that window is a new Halloween movie, which already has a director, a screenwriter, a studio, a release date, and, quite possibly, a score from the horror master himself, John Carpenter.
Blumhouse and Carpenter said last year that they had plans to bring Michael Myers back for another go in 2017, and while we obviously won’t get to see it this year, Carpenter announced on his official Facebook page today that not only was this happening, we’re going to see it pretty soon.
So you say you want a Revolution? You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock again? Well so do I. So here’s the announcement you’ve all been waiting for:
David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are joining the project to complete the creative team. David and Danny will write the script together and David will direct. I will continue in my executive producer role to consult and offer my advice and feedback as needed.
David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.
I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.
And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.
A Halloween movie. From Blumhouse. By the director of Pineapple Express (plus a bunch of episodes of Eastbound & Down and Red Oaks, dontcha know) and his frequent comedic collaborator. Executive produced and possibly (fingers extremely crossed) scored by Carpenter. It’s a lot to take in, but it’s real, and it’s happening. Make Halloween Rock Again.
