A TikTok Video Shines Light On Dangerous Tailgating Incident In Maine
Linnea Mello has a TikTok channel where she posted a video of, as I like to call them, a driver "from away," which any true Mainer knows means "They ain't from around heyah."
I could not agree more with Linnea about the way this driver was so close to the car in front of them that it was creating a possibility for something to go wrong.
Right Up Their Rear Bumper
Mello was on her way to Greenville at 11 a.m. on and came across this jerk "from away" who thinks it's okay to get practically on the bumper of the car in front of them. The license plate on the car was from...you guessed it....New Jersey, where driving the speed limit is unheard of, not to mention getting that close to the vehicle in front of you, is a recipe for disaster. Oh, and there's a Maine law that addresses just that.
Title 29-A, §2066 of the Maine Legislature states that a vehicle operator may not follow another vehicle more closely than is "reasonable and prudent,"
This is NOT Reasonable and Prudent
Anyone who knows how to drive a vehicle knows that you shouldn't be this close to a vehicle in front of you.
In the video, you'll see the driver from Jersey trying to pass the driver ahead of them. When they aren't able to, they get right on the bumper of the driver in front of them.
Here's what bothers me the most. According to Mello in her video, there was a family of four, including two kids in the vehicle, who did all this tailgating just to go get some ice cream. What? The ice cream store isn't going anywhere! Slow down!
Let this be a lesson to all drivers who do this. Not only are you risking what could be a terrible accident, you're also creating a hazard for yourself. If, for any reason, you end up coming into contact with the person's car you are tailgating, any damage is going to be on you.
I hope you enjoyed your ice cream. Next time, back off.
