Deer Stranded On Rocks Handle Ocean Waves in Maine With Ease
Two deer appeared to be stranded on the rocks in Maine as ocean waves came crashing in, and it was all caught on video.
Rough Seas for Two Deer
Jennifer Kain captured video of two deer that had made their way out onto the rocks off of Maine's coast. We're not sure of the exact location, but many people in the comments were concerned for the safety of the deer as they appeared to be struggling a bit to get their footing.
Concern For the Deer
At first glance, it appears that the deer are in trouble. One commenter on Facebook said, "Oh no! Will someone help them?" But are they really in trouble? If you know enough about deer, then you probably know the answer to that.
Deer Are Very Good Swimmers
As you can see in the news video above, deer are excellent swimmers, and this one in the news video swam for a third of a mile parallel to the shore, so they're pros.
A few of the comments pointed that out to everyone who was concerned:
It’s kind of amazing how well they can swim. The CBF guys tell stories of them swimming between islands often.
- Kirk Cratty
Saw that happen once by Fortunes Rocks years ago with a lone deer. I called the cops for some guidance on who else to call, and by the time they sent a cruiser by, the deer had swum back to shore. Turns out they are decent swimmers.

Deer are good swimmers. They’ll be fine
- Cheryl Bickford
It sounds like the deer made it to safety as Jennifer responded:
By the time we were leaving they were in the water, hopefully on their way to the shore.
So if you see a deer out in the water, in nearly all cases, they're fine. I know I can't swim a third of a mile, but for the deer, it's just any ordinary day.
