According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Guy Shurman and 44-year-old Daniel Turner were arrested, with help from the Maine State Police, and without incident, and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, following reports from folks in town that a shooting had taken place near or around a residence in the area.

"During the investigation, deputies determined that gunfire had crossed the roadway and struck a residence located across the street, creating a potentially dangerous situation for nearby residents. As the investigation progressed, deputies obtained a search warrant for the suspects’ residence. Investigators confirmed that both individuals were convicted felons and prohibited from possessing firearms."

Authorities say this is a great example of "see something, say something" (or, in this case, "hear something") in action.

Authorities arrested both men and charged them with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

Convicted felons like Turner and Shurman, who are found guilty of possession of a firearm, could face up to 10 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.

Others might only face up to 5 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. In either case, the minimum jail sentence is at least 2 years for felons, and 1 year for others found guilty of firearm possession by a prohibited person.
