28 Years And Counting! Plans For Old Town’s 2024 Riverfest
It started back in 1996, and 28 years later Old Town's "Riverfest" is going strong!
Held each year on the last full weekend in September, the festivities often include a parade, food, music and other events that draws thousands of people, residents and visitors alike, into the Binette Park (or as locals call it, Riverfront Park.)
EJ Roach, Director of Economic & Community Development, says this yearly tradition has become a great way to celebrate history and traditions, while helping the community to grow in the future.
"The community celebration continues to be a weekend full of events that celebrate Old Town’s history and the Cities proximity to the Penobscot River... watch the spectacular fireworks, jump in a bounce house or two, purchase something from local crafters and artisans, dine at a local restaurant, catch the OTHS homecoming football game, and enjoy a fall weekend in Downtown Old Town. Local non-profits use this weekend as a huge fundraiser and local business see a large increase in patrons throughout the entire weekend."
Roach says Riverfest will kick off Friday afternoon at 5 PM with live music and food for sale, followed by fireworks.

Saturday morning will continue with a parade, vendors, pony rides and a petting zoo, and more music. The evening will finish with a live concert from fan-favorites, Motor Booty Affair, at 7 PM.
Roach says there is a new addition to the Riverfest lineup this year for Sunday.
"...The Penobscot River Jim, presented by Breezy Hill Music. Following the 8 am Riverfest 5K hosted by the YMCA on Sunday, twelve local bands and performers will take the main stage starting at 9 am and play throughout the day. "
Area businesses often prepare for this weekend by extending their hours and/or adding extra staff.
