Memorial Day Festivities Planned For Across Eastern Maine

Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching, and many are making plans to mark the occasion by attending a local Memorial Day Parade or Remembrance Ceremony.

There are a number of festivities taking place all around the state.

Here are a few that are happening here in Eastern Maine.

Bangor will be holding its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29th this year.

According to the Bangor Daily News, this year's parade will once again be put on by Bangor High School JROTC.

"...and will commence at 10:15 a.m. on Exchange Street in Bangor, before completing the parade in Davenport Park. "

Old Town will also be holding a parade again this year, according to Old Town's Director of Economic and Community Development.

"We are holding the annual parade and flag ceremony down at the Riverfront Park. The parade starts at 9 am from the high school and goes down Main Street. The flag ceremony starts at 11:30. "

In Ellsworth, the parade lineup will start at 9:30 AM at the Moore Center, then start to travel down State Street at 10 AM.

In Dover-Foxcroft, the American Legion is hosting the Memorial Day Parade, which will kick off at 10 AM on Court Street. Halfway through the route, the parade will stop on the bridge and throw a wreath into the water to honor those in the Navy who were lost at sea. The parade will end at the Veteran's Memorial with a traditional laying of another wreath there.

And in Howland, according to the American Legion, there will be a Memorial Day Parade starting at noon on Monday, starting at the Howland Veterans Memorial Park, and ending up at the American Legion Park for a flag-raising ceremony.
