It’s Official! A New ‘Boot Barn’ To Set Up Shop In Bangor, Maine. Guess Where It’s Going?
Many of us have been wondering what's to become of the old JoAnn Fabrics building located at 710 Stillwater Avenue in Bangor. That location, along with stores in Waterville and Topsham, closed about a year ago.
It sat dormant for a little while, with trucks showing up sporadically to perform what appeared to be minor repairs to the structure. However, there was no publicly announced plan for the future of the space. Until now!
As soon as the snow began to melt, work began in haste on the exterior. And we got to wondering what store would open in place of the craft shop?
The huge windows that used to look into the rows and rows of material and sequin supplies have been updated, and the entire building now has a clean new coat of bright, whitewashed paint on the outside.
One of the possibilities that had been floated around in conversations was that the national Western workwear chain, Boot Barn, might be looking at setting up a shop in Bangor.

According to their company profile, they're looking to expand their numbers this year.
The organization showed a 16 % growth last year and has a goal to open 70 new stores across the nation in 2026.
Boot Barn, which started with just one store in the late 1970s, has now grown to become one of the largest western and workwear stores in the U.S., boasting over 500 stores in 49 states.
"We say that our customers feed America, build America, and protect America. With an uncompromising desire to support the local communities we serve, we proudly offer the broadest selection of cowboy boots, work boots, western wear, workwear, western-inspired fashion, and outdoor gear. It is an honor to support the varying lifestyles of the people who make our country so great. Our vision is simple: to offer everyone a piece of the American spirit—one handshake at a time."

While there's no official word on when the store might open, at least we now know officially what will be going into that location.
