The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fatal fire in St. George.

Fire Crews Responded to a House Fire on Clark Island Road

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the fire was reported at approximately 7:46 Wednesday morning. Crews responded to 272 Clark Island Road in St. George and extinguished the fire, locating a deceased adult male inside the building.

Details About the Deceased Will Be Released After Notification of Family

The name of the deceased has not been released but Moss says it was determined that he lived alone at the residence, which was a rental property. An autopsy is planned at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine the cause of death. His identity will not be released until his next of kin have been notified.

This is Maine's Second Fire Fatality This Year

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office are now working to determine what sparked the blaze. This is the second fire fatality in 2024. St. George is located in Knox County and includes the villages of Port Clyde and Tenants Harbor.
