The death of a 21-year-old in Portland is under investigation, and police say they have a suspect in custody.

Portland, Maine Police Say a 21-Year-Old Died After Being Found Near I-295

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Portland Police say they found the individual in the breakdown lane of I-295, near Exit 8 and the walking path adjacent to Tukey's Bridge, just before 10 pm on Wednesday, August 5th.

When the police arrived, they immediately began administering first aid until the individual could be transported to Maine Medical Center.

That person later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

One person has been taken into custody in connection with this death.

Officials have not released the name of the suspect or their connection to the victim.

The police have not commented on a motive for the death.

An autopsy will be performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the official cause and manner of death.
