Wilton Police say a man in a 1980's Oldsmobile is allegedly impersonating a police officer, including conducting a bizarre traffic stop.

Do We Know What the Vehicle Looks Like?

Police say the vehicle in question is reportedly a 1980's Oldsmobile Cutlass that's burgundy in color, with a black vinyl roof and red and blue flashing lights mounted in the windshield. Unfortunately, police don't have the vehicle's license plate number, but hope that someone will recognize it from the description.

What Happened During the Traffic Stop?

On Tuesday, just before 9:30 in the morning, the vehicle in question activated the police-style lights to pull over a young man on Route 133 in Wilton, near the Jay town line. Police say the victim became alarmed by the suspect's behavior and got out of his vehicle. This led to an altercation between the two men. Fortunately, the victim escaped without any injuries.

Was the Suspect Dressed Like a Cop?

The suspect remains at large. Police say he's described as a white male, in his 20's, and approximately 5'6" tall, with a skinny build. He was wearing a black uniform with an external vest. The witness said the uniform was new and contained no patches or badges. In addition, the suspect was carrying a baton, but no firearm or other gear.

Wilton Police are investigating the incident but, at last report, have not received any indications that it has happened again. Anyone with information about this suspect or who thinks they see the vehicle is encouraged to contact the Wilton Police Department, 207-645-3876.
