A local brewery has invited Maine’s Senate candidates to participate in a unique town hall that would ‘help Mainers get to know the candidates.

Taverns once fueled the American Revolution as hubs where folks organized for fair representation, and today, taprooms still serve as community gathering places.

On Sunday, November 16th, The Pour Farm in Union posted on Facebook, “THE DRINKERS HAVE SPOKEN.”

The brewery explained that they recently asked customers whether they should invite the leading U.S. Senate candidates to participate in a public drinking contest. The response was ‘overwhelming,’ they said—so they decided to move forward with the idea.

The Pour Farm put out a formal invitation to Janet Mills, Susan Collins, and Graham Platner, asking them to compete in a public drinking contest.

Their Facebook post lays out the rules, which include chugging three beers while answering voter questions, the option to swap in a 5mg THC seltzer, and a requirement to bring a designated driver before a winner is ‘declared by acclamation.

They say that the contest is ‘overwhelmingly in the public interest’ because it would help Mainers see the candidates as real people rather than scripted politicians.

Additionally, campaigns are welcome to suggest dates, and The Pour Farm will do its best to accommodate everyone’s schedules—even hosting candidates on separate days if needed.

Platner has already accepted the challenge with a simple, “I’m in.”

As of publication, neither Senator Collins nor Governor Mills has publicly responded, though Mills was spotted at the University of Maine football tailgate on November 15th and even posted a shotski video on her socials.
