Maine Ranks Among America’s Most Vaccinated States

When it comes to vaccinations, our Pine Tree State ranks among the states with the highest vaccination rates.

As we head into cold and flu season, vaccines remain an important public health tool, preventing an estimated 3.5 million to 5 million deaths worldwide each year, according to the World Health Organization.

WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 16 metrics, including vaccination rates among children, teenagers and adults, as well as the share of residents without health insurance.

Maine ranked fifth overall in the report, placing fourth in meningococcal vaccination among teenagers and in flu and tetanus vaccination among adults.

The state ranked 17th for flu vaccination among children and 19th for up-to-date HPV vaccination among teenagers.

Additionally, Maine ranked 10th for the share of adults ages 60 and older vaccinated against shingles and 17th for the share of residents without health insurance.

The state ranked 28th for children under age 6 participating in an immunization information system and 29th for children ages 19 to 35 months living in poverty who completed the combined seven-vaccine series.

And there you have it! Maine’s strongest results came in several adult and teenage vaccination categories, helping the state finish fifth overall.
