A Maine man is facing attempted murder and other charges after being shot and wounded by police in New Jersey.
Maine Man Arrested in New Jersey after Being Shot by the Police
Brian Lanzim, 37, of Bangor, Maine, was arrested after an incident in South Toms River, New Jersey, on April 29, 2026.
The former Toms River firefighter had moved to Maine but returned to New Jersey during an ongoing domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

The former couple share 2 children.
New Jersey Officials Say Police shot the Maine Man During a Domestic Dispute
On April 27, WKXW reports Lanzim allegedly made threats against his ex-girlfriend as he traveled to New Jersey.

The woman went to the police and was able to obtain a temporary restraining order against Lanzim. She then took the children and left the house.
Police waited at the victim's home, where Lanzim allegedly drove his car across the lawn at waiting police officers while wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with a handgun.
He was shot by police in the hand and pelvis after getting out of his vehicle, and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
An investigation determined the officer fired five shots at the Maine man.
Maine Man Faces Attempted Murder, Weapons Charges After Incident in New Jersey
Lamzim allegedly had a Glock handgun with 16 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber.
His body armor had additional magazines attached to the vest.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office had charged Lanzim with:
- Attempted murder (3 counts)
- Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (2 counts)
- Unlawful possession of a weapon (2 counts)
- Unlawful use of body armor
- Burglary
- Terroristic threats
- Possession of large capacity ammunition magazines (22 counts)
At the last report, he was being detained in New Jersey until his trial.
