It was around 12:30 Friday afternoon when a Deputy with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office located Stewart at an Exeter business and determined that he had eight sets of bail conditions that restricted him from having firearms or dangerous weapons. The Deputy approached Stewart, who denied having any weapons in the vehicle. With the vehicle's door open and the Deputy partially in the vehicle, Stewart put the car in reverse and backed out aggressively, fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. During the short chase, the Deputy lost sight of Stewart's vehicle.

Stewart Was Located in Dexter, But Fled Again, Falling Through the Ice

When Deputies learned that Stewart was possibly at a home on the Line Road in Dexter, they went to the home and Stewart fled on foot into the woods behind the house. Officials found the suspect's vehicle, a firearm that Stewart had previously possessed, and a person he was not supposed to have contact with, per his bail conditions.

As Deputies and a Maine State Police K-9 Trooper tracked Stewart to the edge of a pond, they found evidence that Stewart had fallen through the ice and were unsure whether he had been able to get out. The Maine Warden Service Dive Team assisted the Deputies with conducting a water search, which determined he was not in the pond.

  • Reckless conduct
  • Eluding an officer
