Two Maine Beach Towns Named Among the Best on the East Coast
The East Coast is filled with amazing beach towns, and while Maine has dozens, these two in particular are getting a whole lot of love.
And really, it should come as no surprise that Maine has at least a couple of beach towns on a list highlighting and celebrating the best along the East Coast. If anything, just two probably isn’t enough—but we won’t nitpick or sound selfish. Let’s just celebrate the recognition our state has earned.
Now that we’ve addressed that, what was the methodology behind selecting the best beach towns along the East Coast, and who’s making that distinction?
Condé Nast Traveler curated a list of 'The 17 Best Beach Towns on the East Coast,' highlighting standout destinations across all 14 East Coast states, each offering its unique mix of climate, culture, and coastal charm. The selections range from quiet, historic towns in New England to tropical Southern escapes, ideal for every kind of traveler.

According to Condé Nast Traveler and their list titled 'The 17 Best Beach Towns on the East Coast,' the two Maine towns that made the cut are Bar Harbor and Kennebunkport.

These picks shouldn’t come as a surprise. When the average tourist or someone 'from away' thinks of the Maine coast or a beach town here, they’re probably picturing one of those two.
Condé Nast Traveler highlights why these beach towns stand out from the rest, citing Bar Harbor’s proximity to Acadia National Park and, conversely, Kennebunkport’s distance from Portland.
