Farmington, Maine Police are investigating a burglary at a veterinary clinic that included the theft of illegal drugs.

Officers responded Friday morning to the Falls Road Veterinary Clinic on Farmington Falls Road for a report of a burglary.

An investigation determined someone had forced their way into the building overnight and stole a significant quantity of controlled medications, in both pill and liquid form.

According to Farmington Police, of particular concern were several vials of Euthasol, also known as Pentobarbital, which is a powerful veterinary drug used to euthanize domestic animals.

Officials say the potential danger to any person who may possess, handle, or consume this drug is significant and should be treated as a serious public safety concern.

The drugs stolen in the incident are intended strictly for veterinary use and can be extremely dangerous, and potentially fatal, if they're used by anyone for whom they were not prescribed.

Maine Residents Urged to Avoid Using Drugs Stolen from Farmington Vet Clinic

Officials say the drugs may be sought by people struggling with substance use disorder, or used experimentally, and would be especially dangerous when combined with alcohol, illegal drugs, or other prescription medications.

Farmington Police urge anyone encountering these drugs not to touch or consume them, and to notify local law enforcement immediately.
