The City of Bangor has ended its ban on overnight street parking during the winter, except when circumstances require it.

Bangor, Maine, Overnight Street Parking in the Winter Months is Now Available

For many years, Bangor residents were not allowed to park overnight on city streets during the winter months to support snow removal by the Public Works Department.

But a change to the city's zoning ordinance reduced the number of off-street parking spaces needed for certain homes, which prompted a review of the regulations and an update to the policy.

Now, winter parking rules are all about even and odd numbers. On even-numbered days, drivers must park on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses, and on the opposite side during odd-numbered days.

The exception would be when the City needs to declare a City-Wide or Management District parking ban, which would nix overnight parking.

When a city-wide ban is declared, these municipal lots will be available for overnight parking, from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • Cameron Stadium (Mount Hope Avenue parking lot)
  • Columbia Street Parking Deck (lower deck only)
  • Cross Insurance Center (section of Lot C only)
  • Essex Street Dog Park
  • Gateway Park
  • Hayford Park
  • Pickering Square Parking Garage (back section of lower deck only)
  • Union Street Recreation Center
  • Upper Abbott Parking Lot (back section only, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., due to metered parking schedule)

There are signs at the entrances to these parking lots that explain when they're available.
